ELS Spotlight With Stuart Shenep

Stuart Shenep is a Community Banker for Simmons Bank in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

I am a Community Banker. I am responsible for managing a commercial lending portfolio. I am focused on obtaining, increasing and retaining commercial relationships, while looking for ways to deepen customer relationships across all of our business lines within Simmons Bank. I am also very active in the Hot Springs community, participating in multiple organizations. I am always looking assist the community as well as increasing the bank’s presence.

What is the most effective daily habit you possess?

Having a cup of coffee! After that, having a “to do list’ that I am checking off throughout the day. I find if I don’t have a detailed plan for the day, I try to concentrate on too many things at once and thus am not able to get everything that I want accomplished. With an agenda in front of me I can focus on what is important. If I get interrupted or have to focus on something else, I can always refer back to that list.

What is the greatest advice you have ever been given?

Work the hardest when no one is watching.

What does effective leadership look like to you?

Having an open door policy for the entire team to communicate. It allows for the team and management to work together, to complete the task that is at hand. Open communication is essential in that, without knowing each other’s successes and failures, it is impossible to learn from one another.

The ELS Spotlight is an ongoing series to highlight our Emerging Leaders from around Arkansas.
