What is the greatest advice you have ever been given?

I have been given great advice by many of my mentors, but one that has always hit home with me is…Speak less and listen more. I truly feel that listening to other’s thoughts, feelings, and opinions makes us better leaders and overall humans. There is a lot to be gained from taking the time to learn from others with different experiences and perspectives.

What does effective leadership look like to you?

I feel that effective leadership is gaining the respect of your team while having the gift to motivate others to work hard. The respect is earned by leaders practicing what they preach. Effective leaders are passionate about what they do and truly care about others. I feel that effective leaders realize that they are not the best at everything. They acknowledge their shortcomings and surround themselves with strong teammates who complement their skills.
